Grace and peace to you!
My name is Rev. E. Barbara Gibson, but I usually just answer to Pr. Barb. I am an ordained minister of the Gospel in the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America. My MDiv. degree was earned at Trinity Lutheran Seminary in 2001. I am a "second career person".
I can't help but think "Go Noles!" during the college football season. It was at FSU that I earned my undergraduate degree. My first masters is an MEd in counseling. I worked as a teacher/counselor for 23 years before entering the ministry.
I have three children: two boys and a girl, and I have 5 wonderful grands. I was married to a sailor for 33
years, but became single in 2004.
I have a few Bible verses that sustain me.
To paraphrase them, I will say that "for freedom, Christ set us free." We are freed from the old laws which bind us to death. We are free to love one another, care for the poor and needy, and we are free to live life at its fullest. I will also claim that this freedom came at the cost of my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ through his death on the cross and glorious resurrection. I believe that "we have been saved by grace through faith in Jesus Christ and this is not by our own doing, it is a gift from God." I understand my vocation as having "been sent". For "how are people to believe, unless they hear, and how are they to hear without being told." Again and again Scripture records Jesus saying, "Go and tell."
I love my vocation. I love telling the story; love watching people of all ages come to faith; love watching them grow as that faith deepens. I try to make the Gospel real and relevant to our time. I do this because I love Jesus. He is my Savior, my Redeemer and my friend. I do this because I love people, all people.
So, come to Bethel and see. Come and worship God through the power of the Holy Spirit. Come and sing
and pray. Come because you're not perfect...no one is. We are a church of broken, but healed people. Come, find a home.
In peace,
Pr. Barb
